Cover of Last LightFor many years I've been an Andy McNab fan of the Nick Stone series. His Last Light novel frequently mentions first light, and from that reminiscence comes this blog's title. Although used without the implications that come with Nick Stone missions, first light, and I suspect its antithesis, last light, are the best times of the day.
During vacation, when you might expect that I would "sleep in," I still rose at 5 and luxuriated in the quiet time of first light. Watching light literally creep over the hillscape is a breathtaking sight; shared with the girls in their inimical way is a simple but appreciated pleasure. Early morning llama breath, before or after feeding, the tiny sounds of the girls afoot, jostling for feeding position, just sitting quietly with a purring Allie Cat on my lap is a pure pleasure. Not having to rush the AM routine was really the heart of the vacation--sharing that stillness and sometimes silliness that is the magic of sharing.
